Disco
Disco. The genre of music that incites polarized reactions from those who hear it. Some love it, some absolutely loathe it, others float in between. In the 70s, disco was an anomaly. Within the world of disco, stereotypes were turned upside down on its head, groups that hid in the shadows were allowed to go out and express themselves. The boom of disco allowed LGBT and African American artists to rise to prominence in the public eye, a feat that was unthought of prior to the 70s.
“It created a place – or rather it soundtracked a space – outside the mainstream. A place where black, Hispanic, gay and any combination thereof could come together and dance, love and just be without fear.” (x) - Adam Mattera
